The instant quote tool: turn every visitor into a lead, 24/7
Add an instant quote tool to your website: visitors answer a few questions, get an estimate on the spot, and you capture the enquiry, even nights and weekends.
It’s Sunday evening. A homeowner finally decides to get the bathroom redone. They search Google, open the websites of three local firms — and all three say the same thing: “Contact us for a free quote.” Nobody answers the phone on a Sunday evening. All three tabs get closed, and Monday arrives without them.
That is exactly the problem an instant quote tool solves: a module built into your website that asks the visitor a few questions and shows an estimate on the spot, at any hour. The visitor gets the one thing they came for — a rough idea of the price — and you receive a complete enquiry, with their contact details and their project already described. Your website stops being a business card and starts working as your out-of-hours salesperson.
Your customers search when you can’t answer
The daily reality for a builder, decorator, renovation firm or cleaning company:
- During the day you’re on site or on a job — the phone rings in the van.
- Evenings and weekends are precisely when homeowners have time to compare and decide.
- A missed call rarely turns into a call-back: the prospect simply dials the next number in the Google results.
The classic contact form doesn’t fix it either. “Describe your project” takes effort, promises no quick answer and gives no idea of budget. Many people give up before pressing send.
How an instant quote tool works
The principle is simple — and that’s its strength:
- A few short questions: type of work, floor area or number of rooms, current condition, timeframe, location.
- A calculation based on your own rules: your internal pricing logic, your criteria, your ranges — not a number pulled out of thin air.
- An estimate shown immediately, presented as exactly what it is: an indicative range, to be confirmed after a visit.
- The enquiry lands with you instantly: email or notification, with every answer and the prospect’s contact details.
The final quote is still yours, after a site visit if needed. The tool doesn’t replace you — it filters and starts the conversation on your behalf.
What actually changes
- Enquiries 24/7. Evenings, weekends, while you’re on site: every visit can become an enquiry without you lifting a finger.
- Enquiries that arrive pre-qualified. Before you even call back, you know the type of job, the size and the timeframe. No more long calls that end with “sorry, that’s not what we do”.
- Far less friction. Answering a handful of questions in about a minute is much easier than writing a message or working up the nerve to phone. The easier it is, the more enquiries you get.
- The instant-answer effect. Where your competitors make people wait, your site answers within seconds. It’s the first bit of service you deliver — before you’ve even spoken. And a prospect who is still warm and gets a quick call back converts far better than one who has had days to shop around.
- Self-selection does the filtering. Someone who sees the range and finds it beyond their budget doesn’t cost you a wasted site visit. Those who do leave their details already know roughly what to expect — the appointments are more serious.
Which trades does it suit?
Any business whose price depends on simple criteria known in advance:
- Painting and decorating: floor area, number of rooms, condition of the walls.
- Renovation and building work: which room, scope, level of finish.
- Cleaning companies: type of premises, size, one-off or recurring.
- Landscaping, removals, flooring, facades: same logic.
And if every project truly is unique? The tool becomes a pre-qualification form: the same questions, no figure shown, but a prepared appointment — you arrive on site already knowing the project.
The rules of a good quote tool
Badly designed, it can scare people off. The rules we apply:
- Keep it short: the whole journey should take about a minute, or people drop out.
- An honest range, not a fixed price: the estimate opens the conversation; it doesn’t replace the signed quote.
- Mobile first: a large share of local searches happen on a phone.
- Instant notification: an enquiry sitting in an inbox that gets checked tomorrow loses the whole point of “instant”. Call back quickly, while the prospect is warm.
- Data protection built in: clear consent, data used only to handle the enquiry — UK GDPR in the United Kingdom, GDPR across the EU, the revised FADP in Switzerland.
The question nobody asks: who actually lands on the site?
There are very good pieces of software that do exactly this — build a quote, send the client a link, collect the enquiry. They cost between nothing and about £15 a month, and they work.
But there is one thing none of them does, and it is worth saying before you sign up to anything: a quote tool brings you nobody. It converts the person who already found you. If nobody finds you on Google, you have automated a form that nobody fills in.
Those are two separate problems, and both need solving:
| The problem | What fixes it |
|---|---|
| Nobody finds me | a website that ranks for your trade and your area |
| People write and I reply too late | the quote tool, inside that same website |
A real case, with the figures
A plasterer and decorator in the Swiss Alps had no website at all — just Instagram. His site went live at the end of June 2026. Two months later, here is what his Search Console says. Not our estimate: Google’s own tool.
- 12 searches on page one, of which 6 in the top 3;
- his trade term ranking at position 1.2; “renovation company flat valais” at 8;
- 1,206 impressions and 64 clicks — a click-through rate of 5.3 %.
And on that same site, the estimate tool did its job: visitors configured jobs worth over 22,000 CHF in indicative quotes.
Two caveats, because we don’t inflate anything here. First: those estimates are qualified enquiries, not signed contracts — anyone telling you otherwise is selling you smoke. Second, and this is the one that matters: the tool’s own page gets no visits from Google at all, and that is exactly as expected. Nobody searches for “quote form”. Customers arrive through the trade and the area, and that is when the tool takes over. Which is precisely why the two belong together.
Adding it to your website
At Ultras-Sites we build this kind of tool straight into the websites we create: a questionnaire in your branding, calculations based on your own pricing logic, a notification for every enquiry, and a page designed to convert. We set it up for trade and service businesses from Switzerland to Spain — because an instant quote tool isn’t a gimmick: it’s the difference between a website that sits there and a website that wins you jobs.
